Our
Story

Family Onward is dedicated to strengthening families and enhancing communities by offering vital resources to youth, caregivers, and parents navigating the criminal justice or child welfare systems. We aim to support their well-being and future success through accessible, low-cost classes, support groups, guidance, community service opportunities, and pathways for personal growth that contribute to their overall well-being and future successes.

At Family Onward, our vision is to create stability for our current communities so that they can later positively impact future generations. We believe that by empowering these individuals with the necessary tools and support, we can enhance their lives and facilitate their transition towards better choices and outcomes.

We recognize the critical need to enhance employment opportunities within our community. That's why we collaborate closely to develop the skills of our participants, boosting their chances of finding meaningful employment. By supporting youth who are involved in the criminal justice system, we provide the resources and guidance they need to break free from justice system involvement and build a brighter future.

Through our comprehensive approach, Family Onward aims to make a lasting and positive impact on the lives of those we serve. Our focus on community empowerment and support sets us apart, as we strive to create a better future for both individuals and generations to come.

Oshelyn Sanchez, Former Foster Youth

I started living with Ms. Bre two weeks shy of turning 18. She took me in on the edge of being an adult which I appreciated because I know placement for teens is difficult. She has shown me nothing but love and I'm grateful.

Darius Hawkins, Former Foster Youth

I grew up in foster care under the roof of Ms. Bre. She took me in at a crucial time in my life and saved me from the group home struggle. I was 16 when I went to live with her and it was nothing but a family full of love from that day forward. I gained more than her I gained an enitre family and I am a better person because of them.

Vinshayae Sanders, Former Foster Youth

I am 19 years old. I’m a former foster youth and I have been with my foster mom Bre for 5 years. Being with her has taught me a lot in life she has really opened up to me and welcomed me in her home and we have built a strong bond. She is such a great support system that I have and very honest when it comes to her opinions. She is always there when I need her. When I was 17 years old she was there at the hospital with me when I had my first daughter. Supporting me teaching me breathing techniques making sure I have all my necessities and also made sure I was comfortable along the way. I have made a lot of mistakes in life and she has gave me many chances and accepted me for who I am. It helped me to better myself and I honestly appreciate her for that.
